Michael Page’s fourteen-fight win streak came to an end last night, as ‘MVP’ was knocked out by Douglas Lima in the second round of the Bellator 221 co-main event at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
Page, who is renowned for his showboating and highly unorthodox style, was brutally knocked out just moments after stunning Lima with a straight right hand and, despite suffering a highlight reel knockout loss, the London Shootfighter is ‘still smiling’ and in good spirits, per his Instagram account.
The 32-year-old also credited Lima as being ‘an amazing martial artist’ and a great person.
“If I had to take 1 L in my career I’m glad it was to this warrior @phenomlima an amazing martial artist and person. I felt like I was in control the whole fight, made a mistake by standing up incorrectly and at this level it only takes 1 bad choice, and I paid for it. But im still smiling and even more motivated to get back in the cage and correct this mistake. Thank you to everyone that have sent such positive messages and another thank you to the haters fuelling my drive just like Arnold Schwarzenegger “I’ll be back”,” Page posted on social media earlier this morning.
The loss also marked Page’s exit from the Bellator welterweight grand prix. Lima, the former two-time Bellator welterweight champion, will advance to the semi-finals where he will take on the winner of Rory MacDonald vs. Neiman Gracie.
